Xilinx Extends ChipScope Debug Technology to Synplicity's Certify SC Prototyping Software
MUNICH, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 13, 2001--A result of
their continuing technology development partnership, Synplicity Inc.
(Nasdaq: SYNP), a leading supplier of software for the design and
verification of semiconductors for Internet infrastructure, and Xilinx
Inc. (Nasdaq:XLNX), the world's leading supplier of programmable
logic devices, today announced the integration of the Xilinx®
ChipScope(TM) debug technology into Synplicity's new Certify SC(TM)
(single chip) ASIC prototyping software(a). The integration of
ChipScope into the Certify SC software provides FPGA designers an
advanced debug solution for designing today's multi-million gate
Virtex® and Virtex-II FPGAs. Using the new Certify SC software with
ChipScope technology, FPGA designers are able to develop early
single-chip prototypes, enabling faster debug and verification,
drastically reducing overall design time.
``Synplicity and Xilinx originally chose to integrate the ChipScope
debug methodology into the full-featured version of Synplicity's
Certify(TM) software because of the software's advanced prototyping
and debug functionality,'' said Dennis Segers, senior vice president
and general manager of the Advanced Products Group at Xilinx. ``With
the increased debug functionality in the Certify SC software, we will
continue to work with Synplicity to integrate our ChipScope debug
technology within Synplicity's latest product offering. By providing
support for ChipScope methodology within the Certify and Certify SC
software, we have opened up a wider base of customers and applications
that now have easy access to our advanced debug methodology.''
``We developed the Certify SC software to provide our customers
with a superior debug solution for prototyping and verifying
high-capacity FPGAs,'' said Andy Haines, vice president of marketing
for Synplicity. ``Apart from having the leading FPGA vendor support our
Certify SC software, Xilinx also offers the most advanced debug
methodology for FPGA design. Indeed, integrating the ChipScope debug
technology into our Certify SC software provides our mutual customers
with what we think is the most advanced debug solution in the
industry.''
The integration of ChipScope methodology into the Certify SC
software provides FPGA designers access to internal signals in the
device during the hardware debug phase. This integration enables the
insertion of ChipScope debug logic into the FPGA RTL code without
having to make any changes to the source code or manual post-synthesis
integration which can often add weeks to the design cycle. The Certify
SC software then automates the back-end details by accessing thousands
of internal signals with no extra I/O or performance overhead.
Pricing and Availability
Synplicity intends to begin shipping the Certify SC software with
ChipScope integration in the second quarter of 2001. Pricing for the
Certify SC software will be $35,000 (U.S.) and will be available for
Windows NT, Windows 2000 and UNIX (Solaris & HP) operating systems.
Certify SC is sold as an option to the Synplify Pro(TM) synthesis
software which starts at $19,000 (U.S.). In addition to the
integration of ChipScope debug technology into the Certify SC
software, current versions of the Certify 3.1 software, a complete
prototyping and partitioning solution, feature the integration of
ChipScope. Current versions of the Certify 3.1 software are available
now for $115,000 (U.S.).
About the Certify Software Product Line
Leveraging Synplicity's core synthesis and partitioning
technologies, the Certify verification synthesis products are enhanced
to enable designers to create functional hardware prototypes of their
design prior to ASIC synthesis. This approach enables higher
performance and productivity than older gate-level partitioning
approaches, along with support of critical technologies such as
multi-chip optimizations, debug insertion, and ASIC conversion. EDN
Magazine selected the Certify product as one of the Hot 100 Products
of 2000. EDN Magazine editors reviewed thousands of products in dozens
of categories before identifying the products chosen for the Hot 100
list.
